extex–You’re an unpredictable git: one minute you’re preaching about the “WILL OF THE PEOPLE”, and then, when their will contradicts yours, you’re shrieking about a “REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY”. (Turn up your hearing aid, by the way.)
How does it feel to inhabit such slippery ideological terrain?

    • idlepink17 says:

john, I used to have Unicare and they suck. Get Anthem. I have it independently, not through work.

    • idlepink17 says:

Hey extex, enlighten me, what does “STFU” mean? ;-) Why would a nice guy like you say a thing like that? Sounds like you’re pissed because the polls contradict your wacky assertions. Is it also an indication that you’re worried just a little bit about the November 2010 elections?

    • TheoreticChaos says:

      Reagan’s an idiot.

    • john777316 says:

If that was the interpitation of the Constitution we should just wipe out all laws and forget about the Supreme Court because it would no longer be needed. I am glad Sies that you are among maybe 20% in your personal dealings.

“fight the free market as well”

The only way to fight the market is to try to dictate the market, but even Marx and Angel knew that that would not work. There’s no such thing as “bending” the curve by sheer will. Play with the market or it will crush you and everyone in its path. And no, there’s no such thing as perfect responsibility, but what is perfectly certain is that people will pursue self interest, and that’s the world we live in. Fortunately we’ve also got rule of law.

    • seismedia says:

      “Simple isn’t it”

You want simple? I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, have never asked for one, was never promised one, and would flat out turn it down if offered. Life is about risk, and in America, the only promise offered is the right to PURSUE happiness. There is nothing in either the spirit or the text of the Constitution to force the notions of general welfare held by either a majority or a minority on the balance of the population.

    • seismedia says:

“biggest problem we have now is the side that lost the election thinks they are so damn right that they must take up arms to save us from ourselves”

Wrong, wrong, wrong,… The best defense we have right now is that there is opposition to a powerful majority in government. One that you and I both know will only last for a season, just as 2006 corrected a prior imbalance. Here’s a question, for 45 years after Medicare was passed, why does it matter if we pass Obamacare this year or in 2011?

    • seismedia says:

      “issues are far more complex”

The complex issues clear up once you attack the basic principles of the problem. And it’s not “complexity”, it’s obfuscation and abstraction that are at the heart of the evil of everything from rising health care to the moral turpitude of our leaders. You’re getting tossed about because your sails are subject to every wind of dogma and all you need to do is cast your anchor.

    • john777316 says:

Sorry but then you should fight the free market as well. No different then thinking someday we will all wake up in a world of perfect personal responsibility. I like to deal with reality and not spend my time dreaming of a world that will never exist no matter how hard you fight.

    • seismedia says:

“coruption and hypocrisy have been with us since the begining of this country”

And it will be with us so long as we have a country. The call is to fight against it, not accept it as status quo and submit (or in your case promote) socialist policies that would make every aspect of our lives vulnerable to said corruption and hypocrisy. If you acknowledge the corruption, but aren’t willing to stand against it, then back out of the fight, otherwise you’re no better than Stassi.

    • john777316 says:

That is were we differ. It should not be thier perogative unless they have a million in the bank and can self insure. Otherwise they are putting you as taxpayers and Insurance buyers at risk for their medical bills if they don’t pay them. Simple isn’t it?

    • NicosMind says:

What a great speech from Regan.People may try &point top the UK & say”but look at the success that theyre having”Well apart from all the downsides of socialised health,no pricing system etc

There is no success of the UK socialised health.Theyve more than doubled their budget and have lost hospitals in the mean time.

Theyve tried to add incentive by giving doctors bonuses for making targets. But this means people are left of lists. Not check for some things, delayed check ups etc 2make targets

    • seismedia says:

“PEOPLE can and should modify the plan through their elected representives”

Fine, no objection, but you can bet that they are going to hear from us, whether by tea party, fax, or phone, and if they ignore the rational voice of the people, they will hear from us next November. And it won’t just be Democrats getting the broad surface of our soles, it will be any Republican that has promoted socialist policies or is in any whit dishonest regarding his sacred duty to represent our interests.

    • john777316 says:

I guess I must cut and paste some more of Jefferson’s letters so that you can see graft, coruption and hypocrisy have been with us since the begining of this country and we have prevailed. The biggest problem we have now is the side that lost the election thinks they are so damn right that they must take up arms to save us from ourselves and we are no different than we were at the begining of the country. Talk about errogance.

    • seismedia says:

“They will not buy in unless you make them”

Then that’s their prerogative and you and I, as older folks will have to pay more for our health and longevity. Stopping complaining – do you want to rob our children of their chance at prosperity? Are you not better off than your parents before you!? You climbed the ladder, made a better life for yourself than your predecessors, and now you want to close the hatch behind you!? No, big federal government is not the answer, nor is compulsion by force.

    • john777316 says:

Two thirds could be just as dumb as you think the people that elected Obama are. I know you are trying to have fun with ENRON but the reallity is that when Conservatives are asked to present a plan to deal with the issues all the talk about is increase competition. The issues are far more complexed than that.

    • exenrontexas says:

In America, if you have forgotten, we have a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY, and I am SURE that IF you want to be successful in making YOUR prediction come true then the large insurance companies will spend BILLIONS in the next Congressional election. UNTIL then and IF they can spread lies without opposition, you can STFU.

    • seismedia says:

BTW, I still believe in representative government, and that our democratic rights are exercised at the polls on rare occasions, and that we SHOULD BE ABLE to trust in enlightened representatives that are up on the issues, but with the lack of transparency in government, and the level of hypocrisy, graft, and corruption that prevails and comes to light daily, America is getting dangerously close to either exercising her 2nd Amendment rights or kissing all we love about this country goodbye.

    • exenrontexas says:

WRONG! In almost EVERY way. The PEOPLE can and should modify the plan through their elected representives, IF required. Since BOTH the government run health care plans are WILDLY popular with their respective population, then YOUR prediction is a farce. Likely they will repeal the 22nd Amendment to allow more terms for Obama. However, I will give the conservative Republicans who have poured MILLIONS into spreading lies, that they have deceived some of the weaker minded Americans.

    • john777316 says:

Pleas Pink after Unicare dropped Texas and my company is going broke what conservative solution will fix that? Wait lets call it a free market solution. The only way the free market can come close to solving it is to get more younger people in good health to buy into the system. They will not buy in unless you make them.

    • seismedia says:

“Two-thirds (66%) say an increase in free market competition”

Yah, but what the hell do Americans know about what they want!? Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, the great ones with massive craniums know better and we shall grovel prostrate while they funnel mandatory health care down our throats, “Oh ye defenders of our freedom, how grateful we are to submit to the vastness of your superiority? How shall we serve you?” I am beside myself with excitement to bow before the alter of big government. Or not!

    • idlepink17 says:

Ooooo, here’s a goodie from the Rasmussen poll:
“…47% trust the private sector more than government to keep health care costs down and the quality of care up. Two-thirds (66%) say an increase in free market competition will do more than government regulation to reduce health care costs.”
Now just wait for next year’s elections, too.

    • seismedia says:

      “Latest Rasmussen Reports poll 11/30/2009″

“53% of voters against health care reform proposed by Pres. Obama and congressional Democrats”

Thanks for the link, so accordingly, Enron is ready to submit to the will of the people? Or will he now turn to the “People are stupid and don’t know what’s good for them and need a nanny state to force feed them fiat policies” argument… The foundation-less reasoning of liberals never fails to amuse while their policies amusingly fail.

    • seismedia says:

“no matter who is at the helm”

Very good point for both Liberals and Conservatives. Folks, once and for all, ABANDON YOUR PARTY! They are not your friends, ignore their smiles and their patronizing offers, most of which is to give back pennies on the dollar of what they have stolen. Except for a very very few who truly sacrifice for and serve their country, they are raw political organs that need to be restrained by EVERYONE’s best efforts. Demand accountability and constitutional observance!
